Selection process
For the first round, the candidates fill out the online application and submit it before the announced deadline. In this application, you will need to provide basic information about yourself, attach an official grade transcript for the previous year as well as for the ongoing terms of the current academic year, tell about your academic and extracurricular activities, answer short questions, and write an essay on one of the proposed topics. Additionally, you will need to ask your parents to sign an agreement form which will prove that they support you in your UWC application.
Attention! You can answer the questions in the language that you prefer (except where the question states which language to answer in).
If you are unable to obtain an official statement, please provide:
– a screenshot of the electronic diary with your name and final grades or – a scan of a paper diary (name page and final grades page) or – certificate of basic education (9th grade) – if you studied in the 9th grade last year
NOTE: If you are unable to send your last year’s grades in any way, please email us at [email protected] and let us know your situation. Please, indicate “Grades” in the subject of the email.
The second round is carried out online through a video conferencing platform.
During this round, the applicants go through a personal interview with a selection committee that consists of UWC alumni and invited experts.
In this round, we evaluate the personal qualities of the applicants, their intellectual abilities, the capacity to succeed in the intense academic setting of UWC, their dedication to UWC values, and their readiness for living alone on campus.
Based on the results of the Online Video Interview, successful candidates are invited for the Final selection stage, which is held online over one weekend. The stage has individual and group activities and conducted both in Russian and English.
Usually, the candidates are notified via email whether they are going to be nominated, waitlisted or not nominated at all within a week after the Finals.
Post-selection process
Because within the UWC movement the scholarships are provided based on the needs of candidates, every parent / guardian of the nominated candidate should complete a financial assessment form and submit financial documents. The financial committee will examine the form and the documents to determine the amount of the grant. Once the financial assessment is over, the National Committee sends its offer to the candidate about the UWC college he/she will be nominated to, together with the amount of the scholarship and parental contribution if the latter is applicable. The candidate then either accepts or rejects the offer. This is not subject to change and once rejected, the candidate will not be made another offer.
Once the candidate has accepted the offer, the National Committee nominates successful candidates to enroll in a particular UWC college, while taking into consideration candidates’ preferences indicated on the Application Form and various other factors. Generally, colleges accept candidates based on the Selection Committees’ recommendations. However, colleges reserve the right to make the final decision concerning each candidate.
There is also a Clearing process for waitlisted candidates who did not get nominated. NC nominates a student to a pool of candidates which UWC schools can choose from if they have available places.
Once the Nomination and Clearing Process is done, the admitted and soon-to-be UWC students participate in a two-week online orientation course, a demo version of what it is like to be a UWC student. Future students will have a chance to pump up their soft skills, learn more about the IB diploma program and get valuable information to help them tackle their 2 years ahead.
Please note:
A candidate applies to UWC in general and not to a specific college. If you want to study at a specific UWC college, you should send your application through the Global Selection Programme and be ready to pay the whole attendance cost.
You can apply to only one National Committee (including the Global Selection Programme). However, you can reapply the year after if not selected, as long as you remain eligible.
The applications of the candidates with disabilities will be reviewed on equal grounds.
All the personal details of the candidates received by the National Committee are not transmitted to a third party and are saved according to the UWC Belarus Data Protection Policy.
